Descriptive Report and Effect Analysis about Operation of a Recovery Oriented Day Hospital and Employment through Standard Workplace for Disabled People

Abstract
Objectives : The object of this research is to suggest a descriptive report of a operation process of a day hospital programs which were designed according to needs of consumers and recovery paradigm and to describe development process of a firstly established subsidiary company typed standard workplace for mentally ill people in Korea. In addition to descriptive report, this research analyzed the effect of these programs in terms of quality if life, interpersonal relationship, and sense of self-efficacy.

Methods : This research analyzed results from a survey for 587 mental health users and families with respect to their needs and concerns about day hospital service. Then, This research attempted to describe and analyze distributions and characteristics of registered patients, outcomes of recovery oriented rehabilitation programs, and process and current status of employment to standard workplace for disabled people, during the period from December 2014 to August 2016. Finally, this research analyzed the effect of day hospital programs and employment by means of the Quality of life scale, Change of interpersonal relation scale, and Sense of self-efficacy scale. T-test was used for statistical analysis.

Results : With respect to needed services about day hospital, individual counseling and chance to have friendship showed highest proportion. Self-improvement and financial reason were most common motivators for employment. During the focused period of research, total 49 kinds of programs were operated and total participant's men-days were 17,965. As a result, total 70 patients were formally employed to the standard workplace. In the effect analysis, day hospital program did not show statistically significant improvements in terms of quality of life, interpersonal relation and sense of self-efficacy. But employment showed significant improvements in the area of sense of self-efficacy.

Conclusion : This research suggested meaningful experiential data about operation of recovery-oriented day hospital programs which is based on consumer's need and developmental process of a subsidiary company type standard workplace for mentally ill patients. And this research suggested a necessity of implementation and further study about psychosocial rehabilitation program linked with actual employment, based on a evidence that employment have positive effect on sense of self-efficacy.
